Land Registry staff raise thousands of pounds for charity over 2012
With Christmas fast approaching, many Land Registry staff are busy fundraising for local and national charities to add a bit of festive cheer.
Activities at the 14 Land Registry offices include collecting toys for the Children’s Society, raising money for a local hospital ward and donating money to homelessness charity Crisis instead of buying Christmas cards for colleagues.
So far this year, staff have raised a total of over £39,000 for more than 150 charities. These include the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, Midlands Air Ambulance, Children in Need and St Christopher’s Hospice among many others.
Charity committee member Maggy Goodier said: “It never fails to amaze me how willing colleagues are to support worthwhile causes by donating time, effort and money.”
Activities that staff have participated in to raise money include fire walking, abseiling, moustache growing, riding a bucking Bronco and being pelted with wet sponges.
One employee, Sue Malley, was this year awarded the British Empire Medal for her many years of charitable work. Sue, who spends hours every weekend making sure that hot food and drink are made available to homeless people in Peterborough said: “I find volunteering rewarding because I see people getting their lives together and moving on.”
