Catherine Raines BPharm PhD FRSA

Catherine is Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Place at Staffordshire County Council.

Catherine is accountable for driving the County's prosperity agenda, which includes responsibility for urban and rural economic development, business and enterprise, transport and highways, planning and environmental sustainability, tourism, culture, heritage and the arts.

With increased prosperity and a vibrant economy being at the top of the county council's agenda, Catherine's service areas have a central role in supporting business and the entrepreneurial culture that will generate jobs and which are essential to Staffordshire's success story.

Catherine has a degree in Pharmacy and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Engineering. She began her career managing production plants for ICI in Cheshire and worked her way up the corporate ladder eventually becoming VP Corporate Development and Chair of AstraZeneca's China Business Council based in Shanghai.

Catherine is a non-executive director of HM Land Registry and a non-executive Trustee of the Whitehall and Industry Group. She has previously held roles as non-executive Chairman of the North Staffordshire Regeneration Partnership and non-executive director of the Criminal Records Bureau.

Catherine has lived and worked in the UK, USA, Sweden and China.
