Talent management

To enable Land Registry to deliver a world-class service we require a workforce that truly reflects our customer base. Effective talent management will be fundamental if we are to attract, motivate, develop and keep the right people now and in the future.

Improving talent management for everyone will be a key tool for improving workforce diversity. As part of a wider talent management approach, we need to be systematic about the way we attract and manage talented people from different backgrounds, so that we can achieve a representative Land Registry at all levels with sustainable diverse talent pipelines for the future.

For our existing workforce, this means using our employment equality data and gathering more qualitative evidence. In this way we can understand and address barriers to promotion for different groups and identify the most effective actions to take.

We will continue to use positive action to encourage and train people in under-represented groups. This will include reviewing our Future Leaders Programme to ensure the diversity of applicants who apply. We will also develop mentoring schemes and personal development programmes, which will primarily be aimed at underâ€"represented groups across the organisation. This will include developing our senior managers to undertake the roles of mentors and coaches.

In relation to external recruitment opportunities, we will review the external image of Land Registry to highlight the many career opportunities within the organisation. This will include positive role models from diverse backgrounds and reviewing external competitions to ensure we are reaching as many diverse groups as possible when advertising our vacancies.

We will achieve this through:

  • Developing mentoring, coaching and personal development programmes for under-represented groups.
  • Ensuring we have a wide range of trained assessors from all diverse groups.
  • Continuing to monitor all competitions to identify barriers to recruitment and progression.
  • Ensuring our job adverts reach a diverse audience both nationally and locally.
