Proposals for improving the driving test

The Department for Transport has launched proposals for improving the driving test, part of a wider review of the motoring services in Great Britain. Under new proposals the driving test fee would be reduced by requiring learner drivers to pay an additional deposit when they take their test, which they get back if they pass. This will help ensure would-be drivers are better prepared for taking their test and are less likely to have an accident in the months following it and will encourage drivers to take their test when they are ready and confident of passing.
