Student Finance Support On Social Media

The Student Loans Company (SLC) is running a series of social media surgeries for students looking for facts about student finance during Clearing and ahead of the start of term.

12 August 2016

The surgeries are for both new and continuing students who have questions about the student finance process. Experienced advisors will be on hand to explain everything from how the student loan assessment process works, when payments are made and what happens when you start to repay.

Student Finance England surgeries will run on Twitter -@SF_England - and the student finance zone on The Student Room from Thursday 18 August to Friday 26 August.

Students can send their questions about course changes or finance queries to #SFEClearing on Twitter.

SLC advisors will also be taking part in a UCAS webchat on 6 September to explain the payment process.

Derek Ross, Director of Operations and Customer Services, said:

“Our social media surgeries are aimed at all students, from those who have just secured a place through Clearing or are changing their course details to continuing students who want to double check how payment works.

“We want to ensure students are able to apply quickly and accurately to get their funding organised.

“We are also working with universities and partners, like UCAS, to ensure new students understand how the payment process works. Many freshers do not realise that they will only be paid their first instalment of their student loan once they’ve registered and the university has confirmed their attendance to us, for example.

There’s also a dedicated Clearing page with lots of useful information on SFE’s student finance zone on The Student Room: www.thestudentroom.co.uk/studentfinance

There will also be Student Finance Wales advisors available to answer questions on Twitter @SF_Wales and Facebook Facebook/SFWales
