The clock is ticking for students in England to get their student finance applications in

The clock is ticking for students in England who want to make sure they have their finances sorted before the start of the new academic year.

17 May 2018

The Student Loans Company (SLC) is urging new and returning students to submit their student finance applications at www.gov.uk/studentfinance, before the approaching deadlines, to ensure their funding is in place before their studies begin.  New students should have their applications in by 25 May 2018 and the deadline for returning students is 22 June 2018.

SLC’s use of digital technology means it’s easier than ever to apply as the entire process can be completed online using electronic signatures. SFE will be live on Facebook (www.facebook.com/SFEngland) this Tuesday (22 May) at 11.30am to answer all your questions on how to apply.

Derek Ross, SLC’s Executive Director of Operations said: “The only way that you can be guaranteed to start the new academic year with your student finance in place is to apply before the deadline date.  The easiest way to apply is online at www.gov.uk/studentfinance

“You don’t even need to have a confirmed place at University to apply – you can use your first choice of course and update it later if you need to.”

SLC advises having the following information to hand before starting the application:

  • National Insurance Number

  • Password

  • Up-to-date bank details

  • Information regarding change of circumstances (for returning students)

A range of interactive guides and films are available providing new and returning students with all the information needed to make the application process as smooth as possible and set the record straight on common student loan myths (see Notes to Editors).

Online resources can be found on the Student Finance area of www.thestudentroom.co.uk and students can also view the first in a series of Top Topics films which provides advice applying here: http://bit.ly/YourStudentFinanceApplication

Students should also follow SFE’s facebook facebook.com/SFEngland and twitter channels @SFE_England  for all the latest news and updates.  Students can also use these channels to talk to SFE advisors about their accounts as SLC is one of the first Government Agencies to use private social messaging to communicate with customers.
