Kyle Colquhoun (18) from Wishaw, Ross McLaughlin (19) from Renfrew and Michael McGrattan (18) from Baillieston have all secured Modern Apprenticeships in Software and Web Development with the Company (SLC).
The trio will spend at least 12 months with SLC's Technology Group developing their skills in software development through a mixture of on the job and classroom training. The programme will provide the apprentices with qualifications, skills and technical grounding in the most popular technologies and programming languages, relevant to the wide range of activities in software and web development. In their first year they will work towards an SQA SCQF 6 Diploma in ICT and Telecommunication and if they successfully complete it they will progress to the SCQF level 8 which is the equivalent to the second year of a degree.
Adrian Tucker, Chief Information Officer at the Student Loans Company, said: “It is great to have Kyle, Ross and Michael on board. They’ve got the right attitude and are already injecting lots of fresh ideas and enthusiasm into the team. It’s also a good opportunity for us to foster new talent and ensure we are developing people with the skills we need for the future.”
Kyle commented: “Working as part of SLC’s Technology Group is a great start to my career in software development. Every day I'm getting the chance to learn from experienced professionals who have all been friendly, helpful and willing to share their knowledge with me.”
Kyle, Ross and Michael will follow in the footsteps of six technology apprentices who joined SLC in November.
National Apprenticeship Week takes place between 5 and 9 March and celebrates the benefits apprentices bring to businesses, individuals and the economy.
