Students still have time to get their finances sorted for the 17/18 academic year. That’s the message from the Student Loans Company (SLC) as Clearing gets underway on 17 August.

Thousands of young people across England will get their exam results this week and recent figures released by UCAS have shown that last year around 15,000 people applied for a course after their exam results came through.
SLC is reminding all students to make sure they get their student finance in place for the year ahead and offering some top tips to students involved in Clearing.
Those students who have already applied for student finance but want to change their course, university or college should update their details on their online account at www.gov.uk/studentfinance
Students who have still to apply should do so as soon as possible as it can take six weeks to process an application. Students in this position may not get all their money in time for term beginning. However, Student Finance England will make an initial assessment so you have some money as close to the start of your course as possible.
The fastest way to apply is by registering for an online account and submitting an application at: www.gov.uk/studentfinance
SLC‘s Director of Operations, Derek Ross said:
“We want students to know that it’s not too late to apply for finance but also that applications can take around 6 weeks to process so we’ll make an initial assessment of their finance to get some money to them as close to the start of term as possible. The sooner they submit their application the sooner we can get their student finance in place for them.“
Top tips for making the application process as smooth as possible include:

· Have your National Insurance Number and UK Passport details to hand before you start your online application as you will be asked for this information as part of the process.
· Keep a note of the email address you use when applying for student finance and make sure you choose a password that you’ll remember. You’ll be able to check the progress of your application, update your details and check your payments from your online account.
