Co-funding by overseas agencies is an important feature of long standing international partnering schemes. For example BBSRC has partnering awards with Japan, China, India and the USA with the aim of establishing links between UK and overseas laboratories, promoting the exchange of scientists, particularly early career scientists and access to facilities.
ESRC launched a new India-UK scholar exchange scheme in partnership with the India Council for Social Science Research. Ten awards were made in its first year helping Indian and UK researchers collaborate on a range of research topics including reproductive health, human rights, the evolution of financial systems and household income and employment.
