BBSRC and MRC pay the UK subscription to the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP), founded in 1989 to support international research and training at the frontiers of the life sciences. Partners include the G7 nations and Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, the European Union and India.
In particular, HFSP aims to encourage research at the interface between the life sciences and physical sciences with special emphasis on opportunities for young scientists. The UK competes strongly for funding and routinely wins back more than twice its contribution to the common pot.
