Nick Pollard appointed interim member of the Ofcom Board

14 November 2016

Nick Pollard has been appointed as a non-executive member of the Ofcom Board on an interim basis.

He will take up the position for six months, during which time a full and open appointment process will be undertaken to fill the vacant position on Ofcom’s Board. The interim appointment was made by the Secretary of State.1

The Ofcom Board has appointed Nick to serve as interim Chairman of Ofcom’s Content Board, which plays an advisory role for Ofcom’s content policy and editorial standards work. Nick is already a member of the Content Board, joining in April 2016 on a three-year term.

An experienced journalist and broadcasting executive, Nick spent a decade at Sky as Head of News. During his time at Sky News, the channel won numerous awards for its coverage of major news events.

Before that, he worked at ITN where he became Executive Producer of News at Ten. Nick started his career working in local newspapers and radio on Merseyside, joining BBC Television News in 1977 before leaving for ITN in 1980.

In 2009, he was appointed Chief Executive of the Services Sound and Vision Corporation, an organisation that provides broadcasting and cinema services to British armed forces and their families. He retired from this position last year.

Nick’s interim appointment follows the departure of Bill Emmott. The Ofcom Board thanks Bill for his contribution to Ofcom’s work.
