Research Councils UK (RCUK) is seeking members for its new Open Access Practitioners Group to share best practice, discuss issues and provide sector insight to improve the implementation of the RCUK Policy on Open Access .
We would welcome expressions of interest from representatives of the higher education sector from a diverse range of backgrounds who are already familiar with open access policy, including those who are closely involved in the practicalities of implementing the policy within their organisations. This includes colleagues working in libraries and Research Offices from different types of institutions to ensure we have range of different perspectives represented on the group. This may also extend to other funders, learned societies and publishers. The RCUK Practitioner Group will also link to the proposed Universities UK Open Access Working Groups to ensure join up and complementarity in working.
The group is being established in response to a recommendation in Professor Sir Bob Burgess’ independent review of the implementation of the RCUK Policy on Open Access, published in March 2015 after the first year of the policy’s introduction.
Activities identified for the group include advising RCUK on how implementation of the policy may be improved, such the further development of processes, mechanisms and standards for collecting compliance monitoring data, as well as communication of the policy to ensure clarity. It is expected that the full Practitioner Group will meet at least quarterly.
