Appointment of a High Court Judge: Laing

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Miss Elisabeth Mary Caroline Laing, Q.C., to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 29 April 2014 on the retirement of Mr. Justice Keith on 14 April 2014.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Miss Laing to the Queen’s Bench Division.

Notes for editors

Miss Laing, 57, was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1980 and took Silk in 2008. She was appointed a Recorder in 1999 and is approved to sit as a deputy High Court Judge.

Mr. Justice Keith was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1968 and took Silk in 1989. He was appointed a Recorder in 1988 and a judge of the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court in 2001.
