Appointment of a High Court Judge: Newton

The Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of His Honour Judge Roderick Brian Newton, to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 9 May 2014 on the death of Mrs. Justice Baron.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Judge Newton to the Family Division.

Judge Newton, 55, was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1982. He was appointed a Recorder in 1998, a Circuit Judge in 2005 and is approved to sit as a deputy High Court Judge.

Mrs. Justice Baron was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1976 and took Silk in 1995. She was appointed a Recorder in 1999 and a judge of the Family Division of the High Court in 2004.
