Alasdair Lewis

As Director of Legal Services, Alasdair is the principal legal adviser to the Chief Land Registrar and to Land Registry.

Alasdair is responsible for ensuring that the Registry has the legal services it needs to function effectively and directs the provision of geographic information services within Land Registry.

As a member of the Executive Board and a Director of the business, Alasdair has shared responsibility for leading and managing the business and for supporting the Chief Executive. Alasdair is also the Land Registry Board Champion for faith and belief.

Alasdair is responsible for the following groups:

Guarantee and Litigation Group
Corporate Legal Services (including Information Management Unit and Technical Assurance)
Registration Legal Services
Survey and Mapping Services
Project and Programme Centre
Registration Fraud Intelligence Unit
The local Land Registrars and local office lawyer teams.

After reading law at Bristol University, Alasdair qualified as a solicitor in 1982. He joined Land Registry, Weymouth Office in 1984 and transferred to Telford in 1988. In 1998 he was promoted to the role of Telford Land Registrar and between 2001 and 2003 worked on the LR Rules 2003 as the project manager of the New Rules Project.

In 2005 he moved into a Head Office role as Business Change Manager, later rechristened Head of Strategy. In that role he produced the Organisational Blueprint and managed the Business Change and Business Transformation programmes. At different times he was responsible for business planning, public affairs, press office and international unit.

Alasdair became Director of Legal Services in April 2010.
