Important changes made on Je-S application forms for Research Council grants

27 August 2013

Changes have been made in the Joint Electronic Submissions (Je-S), the system used by the Research Councils to provide their communities with electronic research grant services.

The Facilities section of the proposal form has now become mandatory for all applicants to complete when applying to Schemes which include the option for requesting Facility usage. Any applicants who will need to access a facility to carry out their research will need to complete the section selecting all relevant options and providing the proposed usage. If no facilities are relevant to the proposal, there will be a requirement to tick a box to indicate this.

Providing an indication of facility usage requirements at this pre-award stage will enable the Research Councils with facilities to have a better understanding of the likely level of access in the future, helping to develop the Research Council’s strategy for their facilities.

This new requirement will commence for proposals created in JeS from 27 August 2013. Further advice on completing the section can be found within the JeS helptext. Any questions can be raised with the Je-S helpdesk on 01793 444164 and JeSHelp@rcuk.ac.uk.

Notes to editors

  1. 1. The Facilities section of the application form captures information about usage of Research Council facilities and is already mandatory for NERC applications. This has now been adopted by BBSRC, EPSRC, MRC and STFC.

  2. Research Councils UK (RCUK) is the strategic partnership of the UK's seven Research Councils who annually invest around £3 billion in research. We support excellent research, as judged by peer review, that has an impact on the growth, prosperity and wellbeing of the UK. To maintain the UK’s global research position we offer a diverse range of funding opportunities, foster international collaborations and provide access to the best facilities and infrastructure around the world. We also support the training and career development of researchers and work with them to inspire young people and engage the wider public with research. To maximise the impact of research on economic growth and societal wellbeing we work in partnership with other research funders including the Technology Strategy Board, the UK Higher Education funding bodies, business, government, and charitable organisations. www.rcuk.ac.uk.
