As part of Universities Week 2012 (30 April – 7 May), Research Councils UK (RCUK) and Universities UK (UUK) are seeking submissions for a ‘Research, Development and the Olympics impact report’. The report will focus on the research and developments made by universities that have contributed to the Olympics.
This report is case study led and is looking for shining, current examples of how research and development projects have contributed to the Olympics, the sports industry and UK society as a whole. All research organisations are invited to submit case studies and they can be from any academic discipline including the arts and humanities, medical and biological sciences, astronomy, physics, chemistry, engineering, social sciences, and environmental sciences.
The proposed topics for case studies are below, but suggestions for others are welcome:
- Logistics.
- Cultural impact of the games.
- Economic impact of the games/sport.
- Sports science and technology.
- Sports development programmes.
- Health, wellbeing and nutrition.
- Community engagement and inspiration.
The deadline for submissions is 27 January 2012. They should be one page in length and include four sections:
- Overview of the research or development projects.
- Summary of what the research set out to achieve.
- The impact that it had/is anticipated to have on the Olympics or sports industry.
- Details of the team who delivered/will be delivering the project.
An editorial board will review all the submissions and a selection will appear in a report that will be launched during Universities Week on Wednesday 2 May 2012.
