Research Councils UK (RCUK), the strategic partnership of the seven Research Councils, formally welcomes the new Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) into the RCUK partnership. As a full member of the RCUK partnership, STFC will be working closely with the other Research Councils to help secure access to leading large research facilities for UK scientists.
STFC was formed on 1 April 2007 through the merger of the Particle Physics & Astronomy Research Council and the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils, following the Government's 'Next Steps' consultation.
One of Europe's largest multidisciplinary research organisations supporting scientists and engineers world-wide, STFC operates world-class large scale research facilities, provides strategic advice to the government on their development and manages international research projects in support of a broad cross-section of the UK research community, in addition to directing, coordinating and funding research, education and training.
Further information can be found on the STFC website.
