Equality before the Law: East London Muslim Centre

Speech by Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales

03/07/2008

Lord Phillips looked at the measures taken to end legal discrimination in recent decades, emphasising that gender, race or creed had no influence on an individual’s treatment in court.

“I have no doubt that there are, in the Muslim community, many men and women alike who would make outstanding lawyers and outstanding judges. It is important that they should recognise that they have a valuable potential role to play as judges, administering the law of this country to all who come before them, without fear or favour affection or ill-will.”
