The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Woolf, with the agreement of the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs, Lord Falconer, has made the following appointments:
The Honourable Mr Justice Davis as a Presiding Judge of the Wales and Chester Circuit. He will succeed the Honourable Mr Justice Pitchford.
The Honourable Mr Justice Treacy as a Presiding Judge of the Midland Circuit. He will succeed the Honourable Mr Justice Goldring.
The Honourable Mr Justice David Clarke as a Presiding Judge of the Northern Circuit. He will succeed the Honourable Mr Justice Leveson.
The Honourable Mr Justice Calvert-Smith as a Presiding Judge of the South Eastern Circuit. He will succeed the Honourable Mr Justice Bell.
The appointments will be effective, for a period of four years, from 1 January 2006.

Mr Justice (Nigel) Davis (54) was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1975 and has been a Bencher since 2000. He took Silk in 1992. He acted as an Assistant Recorder between 1995 and 1998, and as a Recorder from 1998 until he was appointed a Judge of the High Court, Queen’s Bench Division, in 2001.
Mr Justice (Colman) Treacy (56) was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1971 and has been a Bencher since 1999. He took Silk in 1990. He acted as an Assistant Recorder between 1988 and 1991, and as a Recorder from 1991 until he was appointed as a Judge of the High Court, Queen’s Bench Division, in 2002.
Mr Justice David Clarke (63) was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1965 and has been a Bencher since 1992. He took Silk in 1983. In 1993 he was appointed to the Circuit Bench, and held the office of Recorder of Liverpool from 1997 until 2003 when he was appointed a Judge of the High Court, Queen’s Bench Division.
Mr Justice (David) Calvert-Smith (60) was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1969 and has been a Bencher since 1994. He took Silk in 1997. He was appointed as a Recorder in 1986 and held the office of Director of Public Prosecutions between 1998 and 2003. He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court, Queen’s Bench Division, at the beginning of 2005.
