Changes at Land Registry

Marco Pierleoni, Chief Land Registrar and Chief Executive, is leaving Land Registry to pursue opportunities outside the Civil Service. Malcolm Dawson, currently Director of Human Resources and Estates, takes up the role of Chief Land Registrar and Chief Executive from Tuesday 22 March, on an interim basis.

Marco said:
"Whilst I have led the organisation during my short tenure through a difficult time of office closures, I will also leave with very good memories of a highly professional and dedicated organisation that remains at the heart of the property world.

"Although future uncertainties remain, the new vision and values being rolled out will serve Land Registry well in any eventualities."

Malcolm said:
"I am delighted to have been appointed as Chief Executive and Chief Land Registrar. This is an important role with a great deal of history attached to it and I take it on with both pride and a recognition of the challenge before me.

"We await the outcome of the Ministry of Justice Feasibility Study looking at the future direction of Land Registry. In the meantime, my focus will be on continuing the communication of our vision, values and customer strategy and on delivering our new strategic objectives and KPIs.

"I'm confident that our vision, which puts the customer, quality and innovation at the heart of land registration services, provides us with a clear sense of direction for the future."

Marco Pierleoni took up post as Chief Land Registrar and Chief Executive of Land Registry on 1 February 2010.
Malcolm Dawson OBE was appointed Director of HR for Land Registry on 7 January 2008, and for the last 2 years he has been leading Land Registry's transformation programme.
Land Registry announced the Accelerated Transformation Programme (ATP) to determine the organisation's future size, shape and working practices on 22 October 2009.
Land Registry is currently subject to a Feasibility Study, led by Ministry of Justice as part of the Cabinet Office review of Arm's Length Bodies. The study is scoping out the opportunities presented by private sector investment and is looking at a range of options including full or partial privatisation.
With the largest transactional database of its kind detailing over 22 million titles, Land Registry underpins the economy by safeguarding ownership of many billions of pounds worth of property.
As a government department established in 1862, executive agency and trading fund responsible to the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Land Registry keeps and maintains the Land Register for England and Wales. The Land Register has been an open document since 1990.
