Analyses of progress in respect of Department of Health inequality targets for 2010.
In the last annual updates of the mortality monitoring bulletins (published in October and December 2011), it was signalled that the intention was to review the format and content of the bulletins before the next annual updates in light of the indicators in the Transparency section of the Department of Health Business Plan 2011-15, and the forthcoming Public Health Outcomes Framework.
We can now confirm that no future editions of the mortality monitoring bulletins will be published. The first Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF) [see link below] was published in January 2012 and includes a number of mortality indicators, as well as an improved inequalities indicator on life expectancy. The first baseline data for the PHOF will be published by DH in Autumn 2012 and monitoring data to support PHOF indicators will be published regularly in future by Public Health England (PHE) at national and upper tier local authority level (and by inequalities and equalities breakdowns where feasible).

Statistics on the use and misuse of alcohol, on smoking including smoking cessation services, and on drug use, misuse and treatment.
Local Health profiles draw together information to present a picture of health in each local area in a user-friendly form. They give up-to-date information on key health issues such as childhood obesity, skin cancer (malignant melanoma), deaths from smoking, hospital stays due to alcohol misuse and early deaths from cancer and heart disease; information which is essential for planning local services for communities.
The annual Health profile of England provides a collation of national and regional data to provide a baseline against which people can compare data from their own local health profile. In addition, a range of international comparisons are presented.
