Newton International Fellowship Association website

04 June 2008

Research Councils UK and the National Academies today launched the Newton International Fellowship Association creating a network of researchers who have been working in the UK to ensure that in the longer term potentially valuable collaborative relationships are not lost.

The Newton International Fellowship Association, developed in response to the UK Global Science and Innovation Forum strategy, aims to build sustainable international networks with the best individuals and institutions abroad. We also hope that it may indirectly help attract further outstanding researchers to spend a period researching in the UK. The scheme will be funded and supported by Research Councils UK and will not seek to raise funds or charge members.

The scheme offers exciting opportunities for international networking: the Research Councils support around 140 international fellows through their prestigious fellowship schemes, with a further 40 new international fellows joining each year. The Association will provide mutual benefits to both the members and the UK research community through sustained relationships networking opportunities, and new collaborations.

It is anticipated that the scheme will be extended to individuals who hold or have held a UK fellowship funded by other organisations in the UK following an evaluation of the pilot website (please note this is now closed).
