Speech by Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, Master of the Rolls

Lord Neuberger observed that:
“it is, to poach from Jane Austen, a truth which is universally acknowledged that any profession serving the public is in need of proper and effective regulation and discipline”.
He spoke of the importance of high standards and effective regulation for the legal professions – but also the importance of being seen to have such standards and systems in order to maintain public confidence.
