Speech by Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales

29/11/2007

Lord Phillips, the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, speaks about CJSSS (Criminal Justice: Simple, Speedy, Summary) justice and how it aims to deal with magistrates’ courts cases from beginning to end within a maximum of six weeks and, in the most straightforward of cases within 24 hours.

“It is, I believe, not only going to transform only proceedings in the Magistrates Court, but greatly enhance the job satisfaction of those who sit there.”
