Second annual Nottingham Pro Bono lecture

Speech by Sir Henry Brooke, at Nottingham Law School

15/11/2007

Sir Henry Brooke looks at the different organisations that provide legal advice free of charge to those who need it and cannot afford to pay, and talks about the scale and variety of help that has been provided and what measures could be taken to further help “those who at present are lost in a complex world through which they all too often have no legal compass to guide them”.

“Pro bono legal services are now being provided in this country on an unprecedented scale. And the need for help has never been so large: one pro bono organiser in London told me that what they do is just a drop in the ocean when it is compared with the need.”
