The Court of Appeal’s Civil Division has published its annual report covering the period from October 2005 to September 2006.

In his introduction, the Master of Rolls, the Rt. Hon. Sir Anthony Clarke, described the court as continuing to have a buoyant and positive position. He welcomed the appointments of Lord Justices Wilson, Moses and Richards and Lady Justice Hallett to the court at the start of the year, bringing with them a wealth of skills and experience.

The Master of the Rolls paid tribute to the enormous contribution made by Lord Justice Brooke who retired after ten distinguished years in the Court of Appeal, the last three as the Vice President.

Sir Anthony Clarke said:

“Lord Justice Brooke has not only been a tremendous source of support to me personally, but has also been exceptionally generous with his time, offering guidance and assistance to the Civil Appeals Office staff whenever they have needed it.

“His energy and enthusiasm for improving the service provided to the users of the Court of Appeal have been infectious. He has been the inspiration and driving force behind the Office’s programme of reform and improvement which has seen many successes over the past three years.”

The Court of Appeal’s Civil Division Review of the Legal Year is available on the HMCS website.
