Judge appointed to conduct investigation into judicial responsibilities of Legal Advisers at Leeds Magistrates’ Court

The Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Jack Straw MP, announced today that HM Chief Inspector of Courts Administration will be working with the Chief Inspectors for the Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service, to conduct a thorough inspection and prepare a report to Ministers into the resulting and warrant processes at Leeds magistrates’ court.

District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts) Tony Browne of Sheffield has been appointed by the Senior Presiding Judge, Lord Justice Leveson, to conduct a parallel independent investigation into the judicial responsibilities of legal advisors at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.

District Judge Tony Browne is an experienced District Judge with an in-depth knowledge of the Magistrates' Courts, systems concerned with resulting, and the processes surrounding the issue and execution of warrants.
