New judge in charge of modernisation appointed

The Lord Chief Justice has appointed Mr Justice Stanley Burnton to be the Judge in charge of Modernisation, in succession to Lord Justice Neuberger.

The appointment takes effect from 1 January 2007.

In this capacity Sir Stanley will chair the Judicial Technology Board. He is already the judicial representative on HM Courts Service's National Property Board, and continues to be the judicial representative in relation to estates.

His new appointment means that from 1 January 2007 a single senior judge will be responsible for infrastructure matters generally.

Notes to Editors

  1. Sir Stanley Burnton, 64, was called to the Bar, Middle Temple, in 1965 and became a QC in 1982. He was appointed a Recorder in 1994, and since 2000 has been a Justice of the High Court, assigned to the Queen’s Bench Division.
