Appointment of His Honour Judge Marc Dight as lead Diversity and Community Relations Judge

Announcement from the Senior Presiding Judge, Lord Justice Goldring

News release /

26/10/2010

Following the expressions of interest exercise for lead Diversity and Community Relations Judge, I am pleased to announce that His Honour Judge Marc Dight will be appointed to the role in December 2010. A handover period with Judge Kamil will take place before then.

HHJ Dight sits as a Specialist Chancery Judge at Central London Civil Justice Centre and for one month each year at Wood Green Crown Court. He also sits as Deputy Adjudicator in Her Majesty’s Land Registry. Judge Dight was called to the Bar in 1984 and appointed to the Bench in 2007, having sat as a Recorder for 5 years.

He has experience in legal education for students, having established a scheme at Central London Civil Justice Centre (CLCJC) with the University of Hertfordshire which allows groups of students to visit the court, spend time with him discussing the cases and take part in a mock trial. He is also leading a pilot shadowing scheme at CLCJC, in liaison with Judicial Office, for students from the College of Law who wish to become solicitors. He has also assisted the Judicial Appointments Commission with recent selection exercises.

Outside court he is a trustee of Counsel & Care for the Elderly, a Camden based charity which provides advice to older people, their families and carers. Since 2003 he served as treasurer of the charity, and is now serving as chairman of the fundraising committee.

I am sure you will join me in congratulating Judge Dight on his new role and we look forward to working with him closely in the future.
