Appointment of a Queen’s Bench Liaison Judge with special responsibility for the Administrative Court

The Lord Chief Justice has appointed the Honourable Mr Justice Hickinbottom as a Queen’s Bench Liaison Judge with special responsibility for the Administrative Court out of London from 1 January 2012, following the appointment of Mr Justice Langstaff as President of the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

The Honourable Mr Justice Hickinbottom will be responsible for the Administrative Court on the Northern and North-Eastern circuits. He will hear cases at centres on these circuits and will work closely with Presiding Judges, the judiciary and the circuit administration to carry forward the work of the court.

The Honourable Mr Justice Beatson will continue to have responsibility for the Administrative Court on the Wales and Midland circuits.

The Honourable Mr Justice Gary Hickinbottom was admitted as a solicitor in 1981 and was a Partner at Cameron McKenna from 1986 to 2000. He became a Recorder in 1998, a Circuit Judge in 2000 and a Deputy High Court Judge in 2001. He was made Designated Civil Judge for Wales in 2007 and became Deputy Senior President of Tribunals in 2008. He has been a Judge of the High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division, since 2009.
