RCUK is delighted to announce its sponsorship of the Times Higher Education 2008 Award for Outstanding Support for Early-Careers Researchers, in association with UK GRAD.
The Award, first conceived by RCUK in 2006, aims to recognise the ground-breaking work being undertaken by higher education institutions in building a better future for UK research.
The Award provides recognition for excellent practices in the support for and career and transferable skills development of early career researchers, who may be research students or research staff (typically employed on projects). The type of support may include training, events, strategy development, mentoring, feedback mechanisms, appraisal systems or career guidance. The award is open to individuals or teams working either within a single higher education institution or across a group of institutions.
Further information on criteria and how to apply can be found on the Times Higher Education website.
The Research Councils fund a major portion of the human research capital, supporting 30,000 researchers at any one time. They need a skilled and motivated workforce to maintain a healthy and vibrant research sector and fulfil research grants. RCUK supports a number of activities that aim to support the careers of researchers in the early part of their career. In addition to funding given directly to universities, activities are delivered principally through UK GRAD and, from 2008, through its successor, which will include support for the personal, professional and career development of research staff as well as postgraduate researchers.
More information is available here and on the UK Grad website.
