Constitutional reform: One year on

Speech by Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales at the Judicial Studies Board Annual Lecture 2007

22/03/2007

Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers details changes arising from the Constitutional Reform Act - including the implications for judicial appointments and support for the judiciary itself - the altered relationship of the judiciary and the Department of Constitutional Affairs, and the new roles of the Lord Chief Justice and Lord Chancellor.

He identified new areas of concern and challenges for the future.

"To sum up, I believe that during the past year we have made a good start in meeting the challenges of the Constitutional changes. This has been a team effort, both within the judicial family and within the Department, and I am grateful to all who have contributed to it."
