Mr Justice Beatson considered the intersection of forensic science and one aspect of human rights - privacy:

“Privacy, and thus the right to respect for private life, can be more vulnerable in the modern world as a result of technical and scientific developments.”

He looked at the use and retention of DNA, and the law and opinions surrounding the contentious issue of DNA databases.
