Digital Economy in Business

18 August 2008

Pre-Sandpit Workshop - Call for attendees

Applications are invited to attend a workshop, organised by the EPSRC, examining key user-focussed issues in the recently launched Research Council Digital Economy Programme.

Increasingly, the novel, innovative and in some cases subversive design and use of new technologies can affect an individual’s life choices, change the way society interacts, offer new modes of interaction for government, revolutionise existing business processes or create new business paradigms. The early involvement of the user community is vital if new technologies are to be integrated successfully into technical solutions, products and processes. The Digital Economy Programme will bring together the underpinning technologies, with all the elements required to deliver transformation. This workshop will focus on the impacts of the digital economy on business and the associated research challenges. It is hoped that the majority of attendees with be from the business community. Outputs of the workshop will be used to inform a sandpit workshop in December, and workshop attendees will be able to apply to attend the sandpit from the date of the workshop. More details will be available at the workshop.

Applicants are encouraged from a wide range of disciplines, as challenges in the Digital Economy will require multi-disciplinary input across a broad spectrum of subjects including researchers from the arts and humanities, economic and social scientists, medical sciences, in addition to engineering and physical sciences.

In the event of over subscription attendees will be selected so as to achieve as wide a selection of disciplines as possible, and also based on the relevance of their expected contributions.
