The Appointments Panels for five of the UK Research Councils are inviting applications to fill a number of vacancies on their governing Councils which are expected to arise during 2012. This includes some positions with Audit Committee responsibilities which are for part-time membership.
The five Research Councils are:
- Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
- Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC)
- Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
- Medical Research Council (MRC)
- Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified academics and experienced individuals from the industrial, commercial, government and voluntary sectors.
The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills will appoint members to the Research Councils on merit after considering advice from the Appointments Panel. The Secretary of State is committed to the principle of public appointment with independent assessments, openness and transparency of process and to providing equal opportunities for all, irrespective of race, age, disability, gender, marital status, religion, sexual orientation, transgender and working patterns.
An honorarium of £6,850 is paid annually and the closing date for receipt of applications is 14 November 2011.
