The Innovator 09 Awards finalist, which include nominees for the Knowledge Exploitation
Award sponsored by Research Councils UK, have been announced. The Knowledge Exploitation
Award will reward the successful application of research from within Yorkshire and
Humber's universities and research organisations and bringing this to market.
The finalists are:
- The York based Central Science Laboratory meets real market needs in the
food security, environmental protection and climate change sectors, helping
to ensure their future growth.
- The Keyworth Institute in the University of Leeds provides access to world
class research and expertise to help companies undertake strategic projects
and develop their products and processes to access new markets.
- Richmond based Peratech has developed and exploited a nanotech material
used in the robotics, sport, education and technical textile sectors.
The Knowledge Exploitation Award is one of six awards, each carrying a £3,000
prize, which are aimed at recognising those companies and individuals in Yorkshire
and Humber who have embraced innovation and developed, alone or in partnership,
new ideas, products, technologies or ways of working in order to improve their business.
University departments and facilities that are involved with industrial collaborations
were also invited to enter as they too work to overcome the challenges of today’s
increasingly competitive marketplace.
The winner will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony at Leeds Town Hall
on the 5th of March. The Knowledge Exploitation award will be presented by Professor
Colin Whitehouse, Deputy Chief Executive of STFC. Colin is a member of the Board
of CLIK, STFC's commercial exploitation company, and is also responsible for all
of STFC's Knowledge Transfer activities.
