Masters and Registrars of the Supreme Court and District Judges will now be appointed by Her Majesty The Queen following changes in legislation under the Constitutional Reform Act 2005.

Prior to April 3 this year, the appointment of Masters and Registrars and District Judges, were made by the Lord Chancellor. Now all new appointments will be made by The Queen and each new appointee will receive a warrant, confirming their appointment.

Although the new appointment system does affect not the appointments of those already in post, to mark the changes the Palace has agreed to present a warrant, signed by the Queen, confirming the existing appointments.

On Thursday (27 April) the warrant signed by Her Majesty The Queen, is being presented to District Judge Terence John, President of the Association of District Judges - as the representative of the largest single group of those concerned - by the Lord Chancellor at a ceremony at the Royal Courts of Justice, in the presence of the Lord Chief Justice.
