How we look after information

We take our responsibility for looking after care information very seriously. We follow the legal rules, guidance and practices known as Information Governance (IG)  for both the collections we make and the IT systems we provide and run.

We aim to explain how HSCIC looks after information as clearly as possible. Where we have summarised complicated technical or legal points, please follow the links to more detailed documentation.

In this section:

  • what we collect - the types of information we collect and what it's used for
  • personal information choices - people's rights regarding care information
  • information requests from organisations - how organisations can ask us to collect or provide access to care information
  • assurance bodies and processes - how the information requests we receive are carefully looked at

For guidance on looking after care information for NHS and social care organisations see Care information guidance.

As part of ongoing improvements to our website we need to sometimes move or change content. Please bear with us while we improve the site.
