The challenge facing Legal & General was how to get employees to understand and become more aware and engaged with what we offer in terms of Health & Wellbeing as a core part of its people strategy. As a FTSE 100 company Legal & General is proud of the benefits it offers staff but needed to find a holistic way to bring the component parts together.
Our aim was that we wanted everyone to “be better” in the key areas of health, money, life and performance. To have employees who are appropriately fit and well and at work and therefore performing to their best and with a focus on preventative care to resolve issues before they lead to absence.
It also meant each one of us also taking ownership and helping ourselves to ‘be better’. So we needed to ensure that our benefits offer value and that we are competitive and we wanted to “showcase” to our customers and help the business in supporting our products that we offer.
To help address this we decided we needed to promote what was available in a new way and In 2012 we launched a new internal campaign called My Money, My Life, My Health which aimed to unify the various offerings under one identity.
New intranet site and visual identity with My Money, My Life, My Health ‘look and feel’
My Life – covers benefits that help us achieve a better work life balance, help our personal development or allow us to help our communities and includes details on such things as Holidays, Flexible Working, The Learning Hub, Volunteering, GAYE harity matching and our school Governor programme. Annual Summer Fun Day held at Kingswood for all staff and their families.
My Money – This area covers benefits that can help give us greater financial security such as short, medium and long term savings and includes details about, Benefiting Together discount on everyday products, Share schemes, ISA’s, Pensions, Life Assurance and Will writing, Housing and other Employee discounts

The launch of the new identity was supported by a new intranet site combined with the launch of the Healthy Living tool with a desk drop of a promotional postcard and an apple to every member of staff!
Combined with a rolling 12 month plan of activity at a tactical level which include campaigns to support healthy eating, stopping smoking free fruit, NHS ‘Know your numbers’ checks for all staff, Wellbeing days, health and wellbeing champions at the different UK Locations (Birmingham, Cardiff, Hove, Kingswood and London), and the roll out of new initiatives Stepjockey which encourages staff to use the stairs and become more physically active.
