Stories about the lives we've made

module:Urban sustainability

Cities and the role of technology

page:Doing our bit for sustainability

In 1988 the UK government launched the ‘Are you doing your bit?' campaign designed to communicate elements of sustainable development to people. It encourages ‘small but important behavioural changes in our everyday actions to benefit both ourselves and the local and global environment'.

Similar information produced in books, leaflets and on-line is found from many organisations globally, with the dominant theme of low-tech solutions and a high level of consciousness regarding the increasingly worrying ecological footprint for which we are all responsible – especially those in cities.

Technology on its own will not create or sustain city systems; individuals should assess and act upon their individual footprint.

Have a go at the following quiz to find out your personal understanding of sustainability in everyday life!
