PHO Policy Lead Areas and links with External Organisations

PHO Sharing the lead - sharing the knowledge Our commitment to partnership working means we can develop up-to-date health intelligence from across all the priority public health areas. Our strong partnership approach allows each PHO to build expertise in particular fields, sharing this with the APHO network, our partners and our customers.

English PHOs have a lead role in a key policy area to:

  • develop expertise and in-depth knowledge
  • provide a single point of contact and information source
  • publicise significant work
  • develop training programmes for health
  • intelligence staff and public health researchers and practitioners

Information and Intelligence Strategy - progress and achievements

In 2007, APHO announced that one of its priorities for 2008 was to support the English Governments comprehensive new public health Information and Intelligence (I&I) Strategy.

The strategy Informing Healthier Choices; Information and Intelligence for Healthy Populations (Department of Health, June 2007) was one of the commitments of the 2005 English Choosing Health White Paper. It sets out an approach that will strengthen health information and intelligence resources right across England, while supporting and developing the information workforce in both the NHS and Local Government.

This wide-reaching strategy has four main work-streams, each with one or more lead PHOs.

We are delighted to report some excellent progress across all our work-streams.
