Invitation for External Review of First Order Draft Assessments

Expert reviewers are currently being sought for the First Order Draft reviews of the IPBES Thematic Assessment on Land Degradation and Restoration, and the four regional assessments on biodiversity and ecosystem services: Africa; Americas; Asia Pacific; and, Europe and Central Asia.

Thematic Assessment on Land Degradation and Restoration

The assessment of land degradation and restoration is to cover the global status of and trends in land degradation, by region and land cover type; the effect of degradation on biodiversity values, ecosystem services and human well-being; and the state of knowledge, by region and land cover type, of ecosystem restoration extent and options. The assessment would enhance the knowledge base for policies for addressing land degradation, desertification and the restoration of degraded land.

Regional assessments on biodiversity and ecosystem services

IPBES is to perform regular and timely assessments of knowledge on biodiversity and ecosystem services and their inter-linkages at regional levels and  will therefor prepare a set of regional assessments. The overall aim will be to assess the status and trends of biodiversity and ecosystem services, the impact of biodiversity and ecosystem services on human well-being and the effectiveness of responses, including the Strategic Plan and its Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the national biodiversity strategies and action plans. The assessments are also to identify the need for capacity, knowledge and policy support tools.
