Travel & Subsistence Expenditure

Post -dissolution arrangements

You must not claim from IPSA for any travel or subsistence costs than you have incurred on election work.

During dissolution MPs were restricted to one single journey in order to return from London to their constituencies. MP’s staff were entitled to claim for the cost of a commute where they had relocated to a temporary place of work based in the constituency. As of May 8th travel arrangements return to normal (please see table below).

Buying tickets via the Trainline

Trainline will invoice IPSA directly as well as provide all the relevant information about the travel, which IPSA then automatically account from your travel budget. Using this facility means that you do not need to submit any supporting evidence for ticket purchases, removing personal costs to MPs and Members staff and the requirement to submit claims.

You should already have your account log in credentials for the business Trainline website which can be accessed by clicking here.  Please contact us if you would like to be sent the necessary login details.

Summary of allowable journeys

Full details on the Travel and subsistence budget can be found in chapter nine the current edition of MPs’ Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses.
