Submitted: 10 March, 2014
Please describe measures you have taken to ensure that an appropriate, safe and sensitive response can be implemented to support your staff in response to experience of stalking, violence or abuse in their lives, which has an effect on people in the workplace.
In 2013, BA committed to raising awareness on Domestic Violence. BA is a member of the Corporate Alliance Against Domestic Violence. One of our Directors sits as an ambassador on the board of trustees.
Over the last year we have aimed to include awareness on Domestic Violence - incorporating the issue into Health Promotion events and organising a seminar for BA managers on the importance in the workplace. We worked closely with our Employee Assistance Provider to ensure their leaflets include this issue and those assisting employees have knowledge of where to find help.
In September, Dean Royles, Chief Executive NHS Employers, spoke to BA managers about the importance of promoting Wellbeing in the workplace. In 2011 he became the first male business champion against domestic violence. Dean spoke about his involvement in this work and in a range of other wellbeing issues that impact the workplace. We also heard from Cathy Marsh, partner at international law firm Milbank Tweed, who gave a personal perspective on the role that employers can play in domestic abuse situations.
In November our Health Fair provided an opportunity to raise the profile of Domestic Violence across our workforce.
