School trips

Learning out of the classroom is an important part of a child's development. This can include outdoor activities on the school site, or visits away from the school. These are known as school trips or educational visits.

School trips can be for one day or longer, with the child staying away overnight. This is called a residential trip. A residential trip can be in this country or abroad.

Safety of pupils on school trips

The safety of pupils taking part in any educational visits or outdoor learning is taken very seriously. Southampton City Council work in partnership with both Portsmouth City Council and Hampshire County Council to support off-site educational visits for school pupils. This includes providing guidance and training for safety in outdoor activities.

Financial support for parents and carers of disadvantaged pupils

Parents and carers of disadvantaged pupils in Southampton can apply for financial help from the Aldridge Bequest Fund, giving those children the chance to join in new activities that will enrich their lives. The fund is available to pupils attending a Southampton school or those living in Southampton.
