Each region has an outstanding variety of wildlife habitats and the best examples of these are protected as National Nature Reserves.

Visitors are welcome on our NNRs because we want people to experience and appreciate these wonderful places. NNRs are open all year round, all ages are welcome and entry is free. Many of the reserves have a programme of events, often designed around seasonal highlights.

The map opposite shows all the NNRs in the North West region. Click on the image for the larger version and see if there are any reserves near you.

We run a year-round programme of family-friendly events on our National Nature Reserves, including guided walks and other nature-related activities.

We advertise these events on the BBC Things To Do websiteexternal link, alongside similar events run by other nature conservation organisations.

Entry into the national nature reserves is free, but there may be a small charge for events.
