A new Discovery

Jun 12, 2014

The next phase of redeveloping our online catalogue (Discovery) is now well under way.

In addition to providing an up to date and more user friendly way of searching our collection, one of the main reasons for creating Discovery was to enable users to search record descriptions for collections scattered across the UK, not just those held by The National Archives (TNA).

We have been working hard on this phase for many months, adding over 10 million record descriptions previously stored in disparate collections within the National Register of Archives (NRA), Access to Archives (A2A) and the Manorial Documents Register (MDR) so that they are all now searchable within a single online catalogue.

We are now very excited to be able to share a prototype of this next phase of Discovery with our users. Our aim in doing this is that you can test the search engine and help us to iron out any issues before it replaces the current system. Please follow this link to have a go at using the new version, and give us your feedback here.
