Statement of Public Participation

The SPP sets out the process for plan making in the East Inshore and East Offshore plan areas, who may be involved in marine planning and how and when people can get involved.

The Statement of Public Participation (SPP) was revised in July 2013 – the Secretary of State has been informed of the revisions. The SPP was originally published in April 2011 and a second version was published in May 2012.

Read the Revised Statement of Public Participation (PDF KB 476) published 1 August 2013. The revisions are highlighted in the document in yellow.

How the SPP was developed

Survey
We ran a survey in November 2010 in order to make sure that the SPP was representative of people's views on how they should be involved in the marine planning process. The survey allowed us to get some initial information on how to involve people in the planning process, levels of involvement and their area of interest. Summary of the responses (PDF 111 KB).

Workshops
We held stakeholder workshops from 11 to 13 January in Norwich, Peterborough and Hull to allow us to gain views and input to the draft SPP. Delegates across the three days were from a wide range of sectors and interests and their input has helped to shape the SPP.

Altogether, 93 people attended across the three days with the objective to have an initial opportunity to meet with our stakeholders and to get their ideas and opinions on how best to engage throughout plan making. Delegates across the three days were from a wide range of sectors and interests and their input has helped to shape the SPP. Report of the workshops (PDF 129 KB).

Consultation
We ran a four-week consultation on the draft SPP in Janaury and February 2011. We received 57 responses to the draft and it was amended and reviewed in light of comments made. A summary report of responses (PDF 112 KB).

The results of the survey, input at the workshops and the consultation have given us a better idea of how we can engage and consult with you throughout the marine planning process and these results fed into the SPP.
