When, 25 years later the couple celebrated their silver wedding on the Empress of Britain at Shanghai, in his * travel diaries Burton would note the contrast between 'the interior of the tiny Town Hall in the Market Place, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, which had probably never been decorated since it left the hands of the builder half a century before, and a dining-room of the world's Luxury Liner!'
